Rossin RLX Road Bike – Columbus SLX – Shimano 600 Tricolor – 53cm / 21 C-C. This is for a used, but in lovely, restored condition; Rossin RLX. This arrived with me in a fairly shabby state, and this has had a full; “every bearing and every nut” stripdown, full de-grease, service, and restoration of frame and components where required. It looks like this rolled out of a Freewheel shop in 1987, and is pretty much identical to model shown in the 1987 Freewheel catalogue. Still, it sounded pretty cool, even if it may not be true! Even the individual rim eyelets and every spoke nipple has been Dremelled to bring them back to pristine. (I’ve included a selection of restoration pictures at the back-end of the hi-res gallery below). There is no damage at all to the frame or forks. I expect that this will take a little while to find a new owner. There was some ugly surface corrosion around the bottom bracket area where the front mech cable feeds through the B/B shell – this, has been rubbed down, rust-proofed and then touched in. Other nicks and marks have been touched in and it remains with it’s completely original Du Pont multi-colour paintjob. If you know your Rossin’s, you’ll know that Mario Rossin used to be the chief framebuilder at Colnago during their golden steel era – so this is, in effect, a Colnago in disguise and every bit as beautiful. If you know your Rossin’s, then you’ll know that the RLX has Columbus SLX frame and forks – even though they never had the decals on the frames. On the original bike, the 600 calipers were in a rough state, it had incorrect Simplex shifters, the front mech looked pretty manky and the 600 brake levers were long gone. These have all been replaced with the correct 600 Tricolor items, so that the groupset is entirely complete and in superb condition in every respect. I even managed to track down the incredibly rare plastic insert, that fits into the gear cable guide that enables these (normally) 7 speed down-tube levers, to index correctly with the original 6 speed Uniglide block. The horrible yellow cable outers were replaced with genuine Shimano SLR and OP41 brake and gear cable outers, as well as the cables being replaced with genuine Shimano items. The pedals have been upgraded to 1st gen Look clipless affairs, which are year correct for 1987. The seatpin, although hard to see is a round Shimano 600 post, and the decal is still there in part. The wheels have their original Ascenti Durex rims and I’ve replaced the splitting rear tyre with a Continental Gatorskin that matches the front. If the frame were larger, I would be keeping this in my stable. All bearings were greased with Phil Wood waterproof grease, so this is good to go for years before it needs touching. It’s worth a fair bit more in parts than it is here on this listing as a whole! It would be a real shame to break her down, but she’s sitting around doing nothing, waiting for a nice, new home.
