Andy Thompson build some fantastic frames out of his workshop in Huddersfield, Yorkshire during the late 1970s and well into the 1980s. Everything he made for the’Thompson Bicycle Company’ name was custom built and fast road or time trial bike were the main focus until he joined Orbit and went on to build many quality touring bike frames for the firm. This example has been repainted at Bob Jackson’s in recent years and is practically blemish free. You will have to look very hard to find any marks to the gorgeous metallic purple paintwork and the Shimano Ultegra groupset which is also in superb condition. Complete with a set of Shimano 105 levers that do have a few scratches on, some quality Tektro brake calipers and a polished Sakae Ringyo SR bar and stem combination, this is a stunning bike to look at from every angle. The Mavic rims do have some minor wear in that usual pattern, but have many, many miles left on the braking surface and are mated to some fabulous Shimano 600 Ultegra hubs from the early 1990s. These happily accommodate a Shimano 10 speed cassette offering a very wide range of gears and making this a properly practical road bike. If you want a bike to take out on a Sunday and keep up with your pals on their modern carbon fibre machines, this will be the perfect bike.
