Genesis Day One 11 Speed Alfine Di2 Reynolds 853 fully custom bike 54cm. Genesis Frame made from Reynolds famous 853 steel. Its really comfortable to ride and can still put the power down when needed. I have had carbon fibre & aluminium bikes previously. The carbon fibre is light, but it is fragile. If you get a dent in carbon fibre it is no longer structurally sound and is often written off for minor knocks. Aluminium I found too rigid, you feel every little bump through the frame. It is also a little more brittle and not often financially worth repairing. Steel however is incredibly reliable material, that can easily be repaired. Small dings & dents do not affect the structural integrity of the frame. I like this steel so much I have just bought a Cotic Soul hardtail mountain bike in 853. The frame is 54 cm which is a medium size. Im 58 and it fits me well, but my brother is nearly 6 and hes quite happy riding it as is. It can potentially suit someone between 55 – 511. At each extreme of this range you may require a different stem size and some adjustment to the seat position depending on how you ride and your flexibility etc. This frame was built to house the Alfine Di2 system so all the cables are routed internally. The frame & forks have plenty of mounts for mudguards or pannier racks etc, ideal for commuting or touring. 11 speed Alfine Di2 Hub with 400% gear range. Serviced first at 500 miles. I also have 750ml of Genuine Shimano SG-S700 Alfine Oil and a syringe to perform the hub service. This electronically controlled hub gearing is great! It never needs adjusting or tinkering with it just works. I had been working as a full-time bicycle mechanic for 5 years and spending all day fixing other peoples bikes, I wanted to have something that I wouldnt be constantly working on myself. There is an up & down button on the right-hand brake lever and this means none of the large movement on the levers to change gear. It gives the levers a really solid feel and is so incredibly simple in comparison to most road or gravel bikes with 2 x 10 gearing or similar. I have just replaced the batteries that are mounted in the seatpost in the last week with a 1300mAh setup that will last a little longer too. This is about the only thing, apart from the chain & sprocket that should need replacing periodically on this system. The original battery has probably lasted the best part of 7 or 8 years. The Brakes are TRP Spyre and work really well with drop levers. They were and may still be the best cable operated brakes of this type. They stop the bike incredibly quickly and a far superior to the previous road bike disc brakes as the pad move into the disc from both sides not like some of the others (avid etc) that push the disc from one side into another pad on the other. They are easy to adjust with adjustment to both pads. The discs are shimano splined discs that mount like a cassette rather than the 6 bolts. This is a great system that eliminates some of the issues with conventional discs. I believe these were XT or similar. The wheels I built using DT swiss spokes and brass nipples. The rims are disc specific Mavic. The rear is 36 spoke with all black except one white spoke that points to the valve. The front is 32 spoke with a deore hub with shimano splined disc mount. The tyres are Continental 700 x 35 cyclocross speed, which are fast on the road and comfortable. This is included along with a spare Di2 cable, extra grommets and a few other bits, pictured. The stem and seatpost are Thomson elite. The stem is the X2 2 bolt with 90mm reach. The strait seatpost I believe is 27.2 and 330 or 410mm long (I can double check this). The Alfine Di2 display is mounted on the handlebars, which tells you which gear you are in as well as your battery level. There is a port in the bottom of this to charge the battery. It has a hope headset in blue to match the blue stripe on the hub. The cranks are shimano Alfine in black with an Ultegra press fit BB. The chain I believe is an XT, 105 or similar shimano. The handlebars are Deda RHM-01 with fizik & cinelli gel padding wraped in Brooks canvas handlebar tape & Brooks cork bar end plugs. The pedals are XT, spd on one side and a flat pedal on the other to offer flexibility. I built this bike as I was living in London, working in a bike shop about 20mins away and I wanted something with a steel frame and reliability without the constant adjustments or servicing. I was riding a carbon fibre Bianchi with Campagnolo gears and although it was a great bike I found myself having to adjust the gears a fair bit. One of the greatest things about using the Day One for a city commute is the fact that you can pull up to the lights in any gear and adjust back to 1st without having to move. When I rode the Bianchi I would find myself lifting the back wheel to put it back into a low gear. Unfortunately I left London just after I had finished building this bike. I have ridden it periodically over the last few years, but not nearly enough to justify keeping it. I grew up riding mountain bikes and thats what I enjoy most. I can no longer justify having 2 bikes and need to raise some funds so I have to let it go. Im sure whoever buys this will not be disappointed! Its not your average road or gravel bike.
